I read on Mailing List Schematics are bouncing between the Development Team and A-Cube.

How it is situation as of June 2019?

I mean how much design changes are about to be made? How many bugs you found?

I read you have issues about che chassis form factor..

At this point IMHO it is better to follow the idea of the user who suggested to create a printed 3D laptop chassis. The line manifacture could be made later in industrial facilities.

It is time to made decisions. I spotted the Forum is deserted. Interest will decline if there are no good news.

At this point IMHO it is better to follow the idea of the user who suggested to create a printed 3D laptop chassis. The line manifacture could be made later in industrial facilities.

It is time to made decisions. I spotted the Forum is deserted. Interest will decline if there are no immediate decisions.

I said it so in the title, as it seems to me that new owners of Freescale want that the company must focus its efforts only on ARM design and projects, and leave PPC development, just continuing selling existing line of Powerr processors without any further advance of CPU design...

I hope that in six months the project will reach an advanced state of the art, and starting being known all around in computing scene to make a signal to information technology world that there is people who work for inverting actual descending trend of PPC platform.

I just tweeted to Michele Iurillo former journalist (and co-founder?) of Italian Amiga Magazine "Enigma Amiga Run", who nowadays runs a so called "Social Collider" firm in Spain called Synergo! that helps people creating their own firm and realize their enterprise ideas (and  it also seems to me that he collaborates for Wired Italia Magazine too),  about your open source PPC notebook idea and about the fact you need funding for the first five prototypes motherboards.

Again I indicated the link of site, so if your project encounters his interests maybe he could contact you.

Hope this tweet could lead to an interview by Wired Magazine, so the PPC Notebook idea could reach as main people as possible, and maybe even Iurillo could help you in meet venture capital firms thru his business firm.

I have an old friend of mine, former Amiga user, who is deeply involved with the scene of Startups creation in Naples, italy.

NaStartup is a group of young neapolitan enterpreneurs who help other young people creating their own startups and mainly help them how to access funds available from italian state, local region (here is Campania region), and even from European Union.

They help in the creation of No-Profit Startups also, like it could be a group/organization/foundation to create and diffusing an Open Model of manufacturing PPC Motherboards.

You may not been aware of that, but Islamic banks of Investments are prohibited by sharia laws to pratice usury. WHat does it means?

Well, to make a simple example, that you all can understand, it pratically means that a muslim cannot invest his/her money in derivative funds that are an abstract form of finance, all related with immaterial interests and deeply involved with any current situations of the Market (that is a form of usury), but he/she is permitted by religious rules to invest his/her money in fines and goods manufacturing, like investing in shares of a car factory that is a firm that produces solid iron goods.

So then Islamic banks of investments and Venture Capitals are always interested in investing in New Technology and in Computer Startups that could generate big renevues and are a form of investment permitted by Islamic rules.

Malaysia is the country mainly deep involved in Islamic Venture Capitals towards western industries.

I read there are 5 major Islamic Banks with subsidiaries in London and are all 5 very deeply involved in Venture Capitals:

It hosts mainly bounties to finance software and hardware projects for the Amiga, MorphOS, AROS communities.
Its last interesting effort was in in hosting Bounty to buy OWB Odyssey Web Browser from french MorphOS developer Fabien Coeurjoly and donate sources to all existing Amiga-Based Operating Systems.
It was collected 2000, 2800 US dollars in a very few months as far as I know, and the results are that Fabien, a.k.a. "Fab" opened all its sources to the communities, and he is continuing developing MorphOS PPC OWB 1.25 free release, but, for the pleasure of AmigaOS 4.X community, another developer, the polish programmer Deadwood had already started, completed and released a AmigaOS 4.X PPC 1.25 free release parallel to the MorphOS one, while some AROS developers have ported OWB to AROS Intel X86 Open Source Operating System.                   .

You can contact Power2People team and ask if they will gladly host the crowdfunding project.

HAXLR8R Hardware Accelerator is the Venture Capital firm based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, created by young tycoon Cyril Ebersweiler.

It funds new ideas in creating new hardware projects.

To apply for this year project funding, deadline is march 23th 2015.

I think it is the moment to start a thread on about how it is going the project and starting indicating percentiles of job made/todo:

Motherboard = percent/bugs/to do
Chassis = percent/bugs/to do
Portings = percent/bugs/to do
Drivers = percent/bugs/to do

Finances = Amount (needed)/Amount (collected)/ Crowdfunding-bounty

Projects = assigned/not assigned/financed/percent

The first thing IMHO is project/motherboard/design

Abd project must be assigned to someone skilled with elektroCADs, who has already designed motherboards and he/she must use an Open Source Electronic CAD widely available to various people involved in the project.
CAD must also be capable to output also Gerber Files so motherboard could be manufactured sending gerber directly to a prototype maker machine.

Others OS / AROS

AROS is an Open Source porting/rewriting of AmigaOS 3.1 aimed at various platform. Main target is Intel architecture, nonetheless it exist AROS portings for ARM, Motorola 68000, and a PPC version too, even if it usually catches less interest than the others.

Infact there is no native PPC version of AROS. It should run hosted into PPC Linux Flavours or Mac PPC Darwin.

We need a new forum section called Progress Achievement Table (in italian "specchietto") in which it will be listed number of pieces required, or what chipset will be choosen and progress status will be shown to public.


Chassis = 70%
Motherboard = Complete (undergoing preliminary tests)
Connection ports = 20%
Chipset = evaluating new graphic mobile chip
Power Supply = Complete (evaluating 1 Ampere model)

This specchietto section will be also valid to indicate progression of portings of various Operating Systems.


AmigaOS Porting = Idle


Haiku PPC porting

Kernel = Complete
API = 50%
GUI = 30%
Filesystem = Complete
Virtualization = Idle


Crux Linux porting = Project is 100% Complete

Fedora Linux Porting

Others OS / BeOS/Haiku

BeOS was mainly aimed at X86 Intel processors, it seems to me that once BeOS organization created a version PPC of BeOS.
It was at its rev. 4.5 time if I remember well.
Some years agi BeOS ceased commercial operations but its creators gifted community with source code of one of their kernels, upon which it is being build an Open Source version of BeOS called Haiku.
Due to scarce number of active developers Haiku is incomplete and in beta and it is programmed only for X86 architeture, but a small team of PPC developers could take the open source X86 kernel and create a PPC version.
BeOS/Haiku is splendid operating system, small, efficient, quick in computing, fast responsive on interface, and aimed at multimedia right from its creation.
It may worth a look exploring its portability.

2) Haiku kernel was created out from Open Source NewOS kernel.
NewOS was originally developed by one of creators of BeOS, and its structures and mechanisms were then inherited by BeOS.

Others OS / MorphOS

MorphOS is a PPC based microkernel operating system.

On top of Quark Microkernel runs an AmigaOS-like API environment to provide an immediate ease-of-use ambience for the user, instead of building from scratch a new API of its own that could require years to develop for a small team.

MorphOS is based on sandbox environments.
Actually two boxes are active:

- QBox enviroment laying underneath supporting all modern OS features, and contains Quark Kernel running the hardware... But not all features are active (like MMU) at this very moment as they need API of their own (API that are not yet developed).

- ABox environment, that features API taken from AmigaOS 3.1 with PPC support and mimics AmigaOS with a new GUI interface called Ambient, based on MUI (Magical User Interface).

ABox has the control of the computers MorphOS has been installed to, actually, and so it is the only one accessible to users at this moment, and thus features how MorphOS appears to public.

MorphOS is commercial product.

Beta version for Amiga Classic Computers is free.

MorphOS upto 1.4.5 is free for those who purchased Pegasos I and II computer motherboards now out of production.

Actual version runs on Pegasos computers, Efika mini motherboards and a various number of Macintosh PPC computers G4 and G5 equipped with ATI graphic chips.

MorphOS can be downloaded free from its site and works with no limitations for a demo time of 30 minutes. Then you have to reboot.

License key costs 49 euro for owners of Efika machines.
79 euro for Pegasos and Macintosh computers.
111 euro is the cost for Powerbook owners.

Since version 2.0 you purchase lincense key and all updates are free. This could be end with version 4.0.

Since 2005 it is an almost 10 years policy of purchase OS once, then download all updates free of any charge.

This is more than offered by any other Operating Systems marketing services.

As long as Pegasos machines and Mac PPC are out of production since years we MorphOS users are looking with interest to new PPC motherboards and suggest MorphOS Team, the developes, to support it.

Introduction / Presentation of new users

I think a default thread for presenting new users is necessary on any forum. So I starting presenting myself.

I am Raffaele from Naples, Italy.

I am MorphOS user and my area of interest is Amiga.

We in amigaland follow with interest this project.

Our platforms are very old and starting feeling bad their age.

Amiga Classic computers were from 1992-94 and their PPC expansion cards featured old PPC603 and 604 clocked from 120 to 200 MHz. Not anymore suitable for serious computing.

AmigaOnes are of 2001 sporting PPC family clocked at 800 MHz.

Pegasos computers are from 2003-2005 and have PPC G3 at 600 MHz or G4 7447 at 1 Ghz.

Italian motherboards SAM 440 thru 460 are the most recent ones at speeds from 800 to 1 GHz with processors from MPC.

AmigaOne X-1000 are the most advanced. Equipped with PA-Semi PWRFicient at 64 bits are intented as development motherboards and are very expensive.
also Apple bought PA-Semi and decided to cease PWRficient PPC compatible manufactory line of processors, so only a limited number of X1000 could be produced.

MorphOS team decided to run their OS rven on old PPC Apple MacMinid IBooks and Powerbooks with ATI Radeon grsphic cards, but Apple dismissed PPCs in 2005.

To keep alive our operating system of reference then we will be soon forced to migrate to Intel or ARM architecture or look and help new open source hardware PPC projects like yours.

So then we are here for cooperate.
I am here for scouting about this open laptop project and to say "Good Idea" and "Good luck"!

Amiga community is famous on internet for their fund bounties to finance software development. We will sure help as individuals for good new PPC hardware.
