The Spanish/Chinese Slimbook has a backlit keyboard available for lots of languages:

Maybe both options could be offered, glossy and matte?
I found this page (in Spanish) quite interesting:

Who does produce Librem's chassis?

This Spanish business uses a Chinese chassis; single components can be bought:

It would be interesting to contact the manufacturer.

OK. I find their chassis quite ugly, but I'm curious to read their reply.

I see a possible problem with wooden chassis: heat dissipation.

(Actually Iameco's one shouldn't be affected since wood seems to be only under the motherboard.)

Marked in another thread:

Other nicer solutions? Maybe contacting a good carpenter with advanced design experience could be interesting.

I think the Iameco design they prefer looks quite good
Wood is also a very fascinating material. I didn't know Iameco: quite interesting, but a nicer design would be appreciated.

I am not sure its right for this product since the other hardware will be pretty expensive.
Even more so. Bigger is the budget, smaller (in %) became the difference between the costs. In any case we are speaking about a metal used for food and beverage packaging: it's more expensive than plastic, but it's not gold.

I think chassis design should be wonderful, to make the product attractive (obviously the content too must be better than the alternatives).

Maybe the same design (or similar/compatible) could be used for making chassis in various materials.

Ugly, but I find the project quite interesting.

has anyone considered an aluminum chassis? Do you know vendors of beautiful but unexpensive barebone PCs in aluminum?
