Introduction / Marc
« Last post by ppcmarco on December 08, 2021, 01:22:24 AM »
Hello everyone,

I am Marc, I am French and I live in Bristol, UK.
I am interested in this project for various reasons: community-based, promoting open hardware and software, knowledge sharing, and an opportunity to have some alternative technologies alive. Not a fan of big tech, monopolies and being cornered into areas I don't want to be in. Well done all for this initiative and for being able to move forward. It's great to see the progress.

Apart from contributing to funding campaigns, I don't have skills that would allow me to contribute to the current tasks of the project, like low-level software, firmware, drivers, compilers, QEMU etc.
I keep experimenting with ppc distros on my old ppc macs, G3, G4 and G5. I hope one day I'll buy a powerpc-notebook and help with testing :)

news from the team / Vote the name of the Motherboard of our PowerPC Notebook
« Last post by robyinno on June 06, 2021, 07:35:30 PM »
In October 2020, we've started to ask the community to suggest names for our motherboard. The suggestions were collected from our powerprogress forum and even from Twitter. We voted internally on these names to pick the best candidates for a public vote. So now you can vote on your favourite names!
Our desire is to collect around 1000 votes before decide the final name on the PCB.

References of the names:

TychePresiding tutelary deity governing the fortune and prosperity of a city, its destiny https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyche
Sam2080Suggested from ACube
BellatrixIt's the third brightest star of the constellation Orion (x86, ARM... Power is _the_ third architecture, isn't it?). The name also means "female warrior", because you have to have some Am*ga references... :P
OliphantThe antique signaling horn, used by heroes like Roland and Charlemagne, thus conceiving the concept of exotic which gives a strong signal
Debbie"Introduced on July 23, 1985, during a star-studded gala featuring Andy Warhol and Debbie Harry held at the Vivian Beaumont Theater[10] at Lincoln Center in New York City Debian
FarStarA space ship imagined by Asimov in its book "Foundation’s Edge", a "gravitic" ship with a sophisticated computer interface for controlling its movements through space that responds to the driver's thoughts
Hénonhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%A9non_map
DurandalThe mythical sword of Roland/Orlando, conveices the expession of myth and power, but also the difficulty of our project with PPC. Furthermore the name assonates with several wors. "Dur", "Durare" (=to last in Italian), "Duro" =(hard, hard to beat, resilient)
Lillymy catty dog, do you remember Jay Miner dog on Amiga1000?  Also it's a girl name as the Amiga custom chips.
VelouriaA song from The Pixies. Amiga boards have B52's song titles as names. Also it's a girl name as the Amiga custom chips. Song meaning: https://songmeanings.com/songs/view/43064/?&specific_com=73015985030#comments
OvertureIt’s commonly a term used in symphonies, so it really gives a feel of power and elegance, which are potential benefits of this project. It even gives you a whole registry of follow-up terms centered around music, if subsequent models are produced

It is with great joy that we present you the first tangible result after years of spending time on planning, ideas, projects and schematics. Below you see pictures of the dummy board, a non-working prototype that was printed with a two-layers PCB that was paid thanks to the ongoing donation campaign.

Notebook chassis / Slimbook Eclipse Notebook Chasis is the selected
« Last post by robyinno on June 06, 2021, 02:12:00 PM »

At the end of September 2019 Slimbook agreed with us to provide the notebook body without motherboard.

An April 2021 update regarding our Notebook Prototypes inform that:
Slimbook support and time was kindly offered for free. Besides that support, we have received two Slimbook Eclipse enclosures to continue our tests. This will make possible to assemble three prototypes of our PPC Notebook. Again, they did it for free. We have no words.

news from the team / PCB Ready by September 2020 – more time for donations
« Last post by robyinno on July 27, 2020, 11:29:43 PM »
In the next few days the engineer taking care of the motherboard design will concentrate on the PCB, as the Electrical Schematics are now stable enough.

Thanks to the donations already received, the work on the  PCB design ( done with Mentor pads ) can move forward and we estimate it could be completed by September 2020
