Based on the brainstorming about the name of the computer, I picked up the names that seemed to be the most liked and which were not to be mistaken with something else.
I got rid of "PowerZen" in this list because it is used by pills for sexual performances. However, If you think this is not a problem, I may add it back.
Let's vote! :)
Here is some logo studies I have done so far. Feel free to post yours on this topic!

@powerpcnotebook @ibmpowerlinux the idea of iXXXX started on PPC time, so what you guys think about "iPPCLinux" ?

I am not too keen on this name but I have added it to the poll! ;) People can vote for it.
how about just "π"-ower (ie, power but using the greek letter for 'pi' instead?)
"π" is a letter denoting a universal mathematical constant, something really recognizable. Or some other similar form.
So, π-ower for 1st model, π-ower^2 (or π^2-ower) for 2nd model, etc
Just an idea.
I have added π-ower

This one seems to get some interest. How would you pronounce it?
Pi-ower is great name but anglophone readers will tend to see greek p as a "m" so then pronouncing "π-ower" as "mower"... That's no good.
Or at least seen it as a piece of metal junk as a "mower" could also being of some sort of self-humor... ;)
So then a logo showing π-ower embedded in a mower inscribed into a circle will be really great! :D

While regarding "PowerLibre" logo, let's check also here in the following site-link for kanji and chinese ideograms connected together.
(You know it... Keeping an eye to chinese-like ideograms logo too, could be useful to pay respect to the major market available nowadays and being apprecciated as response)

P.S. I had rather preferred multiple choice poll.
I enjoy π-ower
I'm not sure how it becomes a mower (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d2/Tondeuse.png/200px-Tondeuse.png), probably only by mixing a character π with m. I like the idea of making a logo.
Hi,
Now that PowerBooks are not used anymore by Apple, I would like to use it for us :-)
Or alternatives like PowerTop or PowerLaptop.

I agree with Frank.Woo. The prefix POWER is a must.
I have added PowerTop to the poll as PowerBook refers to existing computers. Even if they are not built anymore, there still are many powerbooks around.
None of the names is extremely appealing, but since its closed option I voted PowerTop :-)
Other then that FreePower64 (LibrePower64) would sounds more appealing, at least to me, while keeping the meaning
Hey Vox, I have added a couple of entries to the poll. You may be able to update your vote?

I have added them to the list!
It's been a while since we talked about the name. Personally, I like the PowerLibre name (and the logodesign too). Do you think we should re-run the poll or is PowerLibre the name we will go with?
I would keep the naming simple and neutral (processor independent)
e. g.
osRnB A1
osRnB B1
LibreBook A1
LibreBook B1
osRnB =
open-
source
RISC
note
Book
A = PowerPC
B = MIPS
1 = first PowerPC notebook and so on
osRnB is cool I think. Because of RnB (Rhythm and Blues ;))
Drawback: osRnB isn't speakable
From a marketing POV, LibreBook is even better
This logo I like alot:

I think PowerLibre perfectly embodies what we're trying to do.
But you had an idea for MIPS too Carlos?
Provided that this PowerPC project is a success, why not.
I'm pretty sure, there are a lot of developers (also in embedded space) that interested in a PowerPC, MIPS, SPARC, ARM machine.
Not millions, but maybe 100 thousands?
It's very important, that we can reach all potential buyers.
I remember the days, where IBM has released IBM Visual Age for MacOS X.
After years, I contacted I few developers asking, if they are using Visual Age ... most of them had no knowledge of Visual Age for MacOS X.
Marketing and advertising is the crux of the matter.
In case of MIPS, we could always contact Loongson. If I'm not mistaken, Richard Stallman once used a laptop with a Loongson processor.
http://blog.imgtec.com/mips-processors/loongson-mips64-processors-performance-barrier
MIPS is heavily on Linux Debian, AFAIK ;)
Not to mention the Loongson chips also have x86 emulation build in, just like the Elbrus 2K chips.

Oh no! ;D
Has a name been decided already?
It seems the poll is still open but I do not see any particularly awesome name.
BTW powertop is a name of certain piece of software .. somewhat akin to iotop and nethogs.
PoPCorn is kind of inventive at least and features PPC in it so it somewhat relates to the project and its deliverable ;-)
m-ower does not display properly for me. I see ? in place of the first character. Is it Π-ower or π-ower or ..? Πindeed looks a lot like M if you limit yourself to Latin characters.
progressbook and openbook already exist so much like powerbook they are out of question. Although progressbook is used in relation to school so might be kind of funny to overload that term.
Names containing Libre and some English word sound like you cannot speak one language properly and have to mix two. Isn't libre French?
I don't particularly like the names with cube. I expect notebook to be flat ;-) And IIRC powercube was (unofficial?) name of a Mac computer model.
I totally support MeOW but I do not see any connection to the project.
I think something like OpenPPCbooK would be ok. It does not embed any well known existing trademark. "Open" reflects the choices of the project to consider NDA-free and accessible hardware and software where practical but including components with more restrictions to achieve reasonable performance and features where necessary. So not truly "free hardware".
We have time at least until 10th May :)
I have a suggestion for a name. My suggestion is PowerPhoenix.
added on the poll

We still have time to vote...
Need to be careful with "Libre" untilnwe know for certain we actually can deliver full schematics and layout.
*Linux sortof leaves out bsd and other OS possibilities.
From this list, PowerTop is my favorite.
PowerNote, or Note Of Power?
PowerNote is the name of a company (see website (http://www.powernote.com.br/)) so it's a no-go.
"Note of power" doesn't sound like a name to me but it could be used like a slogan:
PowerTop
A note of power!
For the name: I would like to propose a name to add to the list that has nothing to do with IT world:
"Vaquitas!"
It is the name of a wales species with just around 20 more members in the full marien world.

Thanks,

PeopleBook because it gives POWER to the Peoples.
The Progressive Power Community PeopleBook.
In fact even if "PowerLibre" it's nice, but we need to be careful because until we will be designed the full schematics and layout we don't know exactly if we will need some chips that need some particular nda...
As many votes are very old,
I have activated the possibility to update the old vote for who like it.

PowerNote, or Note Of Power?
Yesterday I have voted also for Powertop, although I'm not happy with the name. Because it sounds a little bit like Desktop. But I also haven't a better name so far. PowerNote would be perfect, but frank.woo has mentioned it's already a company name :(
PeopleBook sounds very good to me and is very well fitting to our PPC slogan.
Or maybe "VirtusLiber"? This is the Latin translation of PowerBook.
Today I would vote for PeopleBook :)
I'm quite fond of the seminal "Power McPowerface". Any takers?
So you want that we need to add to the poll the name : "Power McPowerface" ?

AccuBook as a name came to my mind...
Accurate and Book sized?
Power or PPC in the name isn't all that required is it?
So you want to add "AccuBook".
Power or PPC are not string required inside the name. :)

...but I don't know if we are in time for this option and we are using this as a hashtag in Twitter, maybe is not fair play
