Creative chipsets.

Creative has had a long monopolative grip on the computer sound market for quite some time. In the past, Creative was pretty good but today it is not so much anymore.

It is a serious problem for PCI connected devices.

PCI is hot-pluggable and they can be removed. Servers allow for example PCI cards to be replaced during operation, and laptop systems with PCMCIA and PCI Express Card allow insertion and removal.

One thing that I would like on this laptop is an actual PCMCIA/ExpressCard slot.

Alternatively the Javascript engine could use LLVM, then the PowerPC LLVM compiler can just be used instead.

What is the latest and mandatory core feature which is not portable?

The only issue with browsers these days it he high reliance on Javascript, there are really no JITs for Javascript to PowerPC machine code.

Jessie's Iceweasel is the same as Wheezy.

The other alternative would be for example to write a web browser in something such as Java, compile Javascript to Java byte code then load it, this way the browser could take advantage of Java's JIT.

Trackpoint is patented by IBM, although rumor has it the patents expire in 2016. Regardless, before they expire a patent license would be required even very close to their expiration.

Trackpoints are rather nice though, but I would also want a touchpad also since both can be very handy for specific situations.

Most LCDs are naturally glossy, the matte you find on screens is just an added sheet for the most part.

Personally I would be against a wood chassis. There is potential for the wood to become mushy and rot if exposed to high humidity or enough exposure to liquids. Wood also splinters across the grain.

I believe there is a PowerPC 64-bit port of Hotspot, which means that there would be a higher speed Java compared to 32-bit PowerPC.

PowerPC is a registered trademark though (at least in the US) so you might need some kind of license or permission from IBM before you can use it in your product name (rather than just a description of it).

"PoPCorn" sound nice.

I would personally want to avoid naming it with Linux or a derivation of it in it though, that kind of sends the message that only Linux is cared about (i.e. it is designed ONLY for Linux, which kind of defeats the purpose of respecting the freedom of users).

I would not mine a soldered in AMD GPU, although one with a socket would be nice in a way.

As for RAM and storage, I am completely against them being soldered in. If the RAM and/or SSD fails, if you cannot replace it you essentially have a paper weight and/or a permanent loss of a USB port.

Also a fixed 128GiB SSD might not be enough, some users might want instead a 2TiB HDD. Then say if 2TiB SSDs that are very price affordable come out in a few years, you would regret it because you would never be able to actually use it unless you externally used it.

I am personally fine with the 1440x960 display as it is on the PowerBook G4 (A1138, PowerBook5,8). I prefer glossy though as the image appears sharper and I can use my display as a mirror if needed to see what is behind me. A DVI connector would be the best of both worlds as you could use analog VGA and then use a digital adapter if required.

I do use a 4:3 1024x768 display for a desktop, however I prefer the screen as it is on the PowerBook G4 since there is more screen real estate which can be used for displaying wider lines of code without having microsized fonts.
