I like it.

PPC should be not only black, but the "o" of popcorn should be a bit more little.

Also PPC shoild be more compact in kerning to made it immediately recognizable.

VigorPC with subtitle with the CPU name. something like PPC601, so:

"VigorPC
PPC601"

Hi guys

I like cool short names with an acronym inside.
But ... am I the only one who reads "porn" at the first view?  :-\

We have to take care of this because it might result that people remember porn and not .. POPCorn.
Pop(pen) in german is an other word for (having sex) ... so this might drive it even more.

feeef

@chdrsto, personally, I don't read "porn" but if others do, that would be a problem to solve with the logo. "Popcorn" not being a bad word or a word you can confuse with "porn".

I have setup a poll where you can vote for other names => http://forum.powerpc-notebook.org/index.php?topic=40.0

PoPCorn, I like a lot.

Also is coming in my mind:

- PPClib64 (PowerPC, Liberty, 64bit), short and sounds good
- PPCnux64 (PowerPC, Linux, 64bit), sounds also good, but sounds more like a distro
- Lipon64 (Linux, Power, open source, notebook, 64bit)

"PoPCorn" sound nice.

I would personally want to avoid naming it with Linux or a derivation of it in it though, that kind of sends the message that only Linux is cared about (i.e. it is designed ONLY for Linux, which kind of defeats the purpose of respecting the freedom of users).

Carlos

I have thought about that, too.

open source RISC noteBook :-)

Carlos

A further proposal:

Librebook PowerPC

Advantage:
There is room left for further "RISC" books ...

PowerPC

PowerPC is a registered trademark though (at least in the US) so you might need some kind of license or permission from IBM before you can use it in your product name (rather than just a description of it).

Carlos

Yes, of course you need. I would be surprised, if we wouldn't get a permission from NXP/ IBM.
Otherwise we could call it Model P :-)

"PoPCorn Openbook" or "PoPCorn Librebook" are sure good names to choice for!
